About BreakwatcherBreakwatcher is an interactive website designed to provide surfers with a wealth of information tailored to traveling. Since few surfers live on the beaches they surf at many have to travel. By organizing this information onto a map surfers and anyone interested in surfing can quickly and easily find what they need. Currently the site displays surf spots and buoys around the world. The locations of these breaks are not exact, however we have made a "best guess" attempt based on others' accounts of the locations. If you feel there is a mistake, or there is a location you would like to see added please e-mail us at the contact above. We are currently working towards adding surf shops to our database. If you own or know a surf shop interested in listing on our database. Please e-mail us at the contact address link above. The current functions offered are as follows: Break locations, buoy locations, short term (12-6 hr) buoy history, Surfline.com RSS reports and driving directions. Surfline.com RSS reports are provided free of charge by Surfline.com and can be incorporated into your own website if you wish. Driving directions are also provided free of charge. Additional reports are being added as reporters sign up. If you would like to become a reporter visit our reporter sign up page here. Please note: Driving directions are also a "best guess" service. Since the location of breaks can't be guaranteed neither can the driving directions. In many circumstances the breaks may have foot trails or other forms of access. These are not accounted for. The driving directions should get you to within eyesight of the break. It is up to you to find the rest of the way from there. FAQShould I go surfing? This is probably the #1 question on everyone's mind that everyone else is trying to answer. The answer is simple. You should go surfing if you feel like it. We cannot tell you what you should or should not do. It's actually in our best interests not to tell you to do anything at all. At Breakwatcher it's our goal to arm you with all the information you need to decide for yourself. Some of the best times we have while surfing are when the conditions are poor but the people we're with make it more than okay. With this in mind we strongly encourage everyone from the most experienced waterman to the least experienced grom to exercise caution at all times before during and after surfing. Bad things happen when we least expect it so be prepared. Is it possible to overlay the driving directions on the map alongside the beach locations?Unfortunately this feature is not currently possible. According to the maps terms of agreement we may not provide driving directions. We can however link to these directions which is exactly what we do. If this changes in the future we will definitely add it. Can I link to locations on the map?Yes. There's two methods of doing this. One is to search for the address you want the map centered on then simply copy and paste the URL. If you need to pan to get to the location and cannot center the map based on an address go here for additional instructions Is it possible to get reports on my mobile phone? It depends largely on your phone and your plan. A toned down version of our index may be accessible on your mobile phone. Enter m.breakwatcher.com into your mobile phone's browser and search our report database for your favorite spots. We recommend checking with your wireless service provider before using mobile web features. Breakwatcher does not charge any fees for accessing our mobile site but your service provider may.
